The meme, it's all about me

I am a procrastinator, which fact is evident in the time lapsed since Niobe tagged me.

I am behind on a work project I need to finish before we head to the Old Country this Sunday.

I am excited about going and about taking Monkey for the very first time.

I am not as excited as I thought I would be.

I am anxious, just a little. Actually, a little more than a little.

I am looking at a candle we lit this morning because Monkey wanted to have one going again.

I am more glad than sad that she wanted to light it.

I am missing my son.

I am still laughing.

I am getting my brain back, slowly.

I am still missing my drive.

I am kinda used to the way I am now.

I am looking forward to when we will be allowed to try again.

I am also uneasy about that.

I am sleepy.

I am formerly a pretty good chess player.

I am no good at speed chess.

I am addicted to the stat counter I installed the other day.

I am not sure when we might get to travel again as a family. Hopefully not soon.

I am about to take a ten hour flight with a five year old. Holy shit.

I am a stranger in a strange land.

I am home.

I am OK.

I am tagging
Lori,
Bon,
Kate,
Aurelia, and
Wannabe Mom.
Ladies, you get to write those "I am" statements now. If you want to, of course. No pressure.

Bonus track:

I am a little sad that I can't use the very first thing that popped into my head when I saw this meme-- it's in the language of the Old Country and would carry no meaning in translation.

I am sad, in fact, that I had to do this meme in one language-- too many bad multilingual puns got away.

I'm so glad you are taking this trip. A little (big) change will be good, I think, and Monkey will be delighted. Five is such a wonderful age and I am sure you will be delighted with everything she finds delightful.

Plane trips always exist in inverse proportion to how much I fear them so I think your anxiety about this one bodes well.

And when you come home you'll be that much closer to trying again and I wish with all of my heart you are unable to make this trip any time soon for the best of all reasons. I do not think that another pregnancy will take away the sadness you carry, but it should add some happy.

Thinking of you, as always.

I'm excited about your trip even if you're feeling a little hesitant. Though I'm not the one taking a ten-hour flight with a five year old.

Too bad you can't explain what you would have said in your other language(s). I'm a sucker for multilingual puns. Even bad ones.

i'm with Julia...plane trips do seem to work in inverse proportion to one's fears...wishing you and Monkey happy trails and a wonderful trip.

i both laughed and felt deep sad wistfulness in your answers...i like your writing. and i will be happy to continue the meme...i've got another i've been slack on getting to so perhaps i'll combine them. :)

I keep trying to do this meme, but I am the world's worst poet.

Hmmm, maybe I can make that my opening line?

Trips are fun, they give us a little break from our brains and we feel refreshed when we return. It will be good, don't worry. :)

I wonder how we would know you if we could all read you in both (or more?) of your languages.

Thanks for the tag- I think. Like Aurelia, I am not much of a poet. I am way too wordy! Hey, maybe that's my first line!

Have a wonderful trip! I took my oldest when he was 5 on a trip to Paris to visit friends. He actually did remarkably well. I hope you have a DVD player- or rent one at the airport!

I imagine pieces of this trip will be bittersweet, but I am hoping for much more "sweet" than "bitter" for you.

Speed chess - no way. Even if I don't actually take that long to decide my moves, the timer totally jacks my concentration.

I'm excited that you're going to the Old Country. Wish I knew which one it was! I have to say though, that I've traveled so so much in the past 7 years that I'm treasuring not going anywhere for a long long time.

Monkey's a sweetie. Good luck on that flight though - I don't completely envy you that.

We'll miss you.

Oh, I think plane rides with five-year-olds are kind of -- dare I say -- fun. Because they're old enough to get a kick out of the compartmentalized meal, and the pull-down tray, and the stewardesses usually give them "wings" and let them meet the pilot, and they enjoy looking out the window, and pulling the shade up and down and up and down and up and down...

OK, I'll stop now. I was terrified about taking my kids to Amsterdam, and in the end it was so much better than I ever could have imagined. I hope the same is true for you, really I do.

Have a good trip! Don't worry, the flights will be fine. All the transatlantic planes have those little tv's in the seats now. Also, I think you can give melatonin to a 5-year old (though check this with your ped). Alexander was 8 when i gave it to him first (with the ped's okay), it eases the time change well.

Thanks for the tag, uh, i'll do my best?

I really like the part when you say that you're still laughing. And the part at the end where you say "I am O.K." I think I should get that on a t-shirt...I guess the more we say it to ourselves, the more chance we have of it being real.

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks, guys. I do believe it will be ok. Monkey is a seasoned traveler-- she flies to see my parents on semi-regular basis, and we have taken vacations that required flying. Just not for 10 hours straight, plus the short connecting flight before, plus the time in the airport.
Have to figure out how to prevail upon her to sleep the earlier part of the flight, rather than later. Will check into that melatonin thing-- I didn't even think of it. Thanks, Kate. And the DVD player is definitely coming along.
