Who's your (fry) daddy?

We got a deep fryer yesterday. I've coveted one for a few months since my sister informed me that they sell them at C0stc0 and that my future brother in law is angling for one. That immediately reminded me that we used to have one, and JD used to make amazing chicken wings in it (proper chicken wings are apparently fried first and then shaken to coat in the sauce of your choosing), but it was of a small bucket variety with an un-heat-resistant lid, and consequently spewed hot boiling oil all over the place while it was on. The memory then spurred me to clean out my lazy Susans, upon one of which the aforementioned baby deep fryer was found, cleaned out, and placed in the donations pile of crap in my office (the stuff that, hopefully, one day will leave the premises to benefit someone else's lives). Associating that closely with a deep fryer, any deep fryer, in turn, led me to a chicken wings craving that went unsatisfied for months as the good local wings place closed years ago and the chain place does something ever so slightly untoward to their wings.

So we got the fryer yesterday. And we had wings tonight. And friends. Over, for wings. And wine. Somewhat respectable quantities of whine. So I am buzzed. And blogging while buzzed. And I think going to sleep now.

But does your deep fryer (and/or JD) make doughnuts?

We didn't make those before, but the thing comes with a booklet, and the booklet has a recipe for doughnuts. And my sister wants fried latkes for Hanukkah.

You have to make jelly doughnuts for Channukah as well!

I'm glad you got your chicken wings and guests as well.

Oooo... that sounds yummy. I'll never get one of those in this house though. Superdad is ultra-super-duper health conscious so he would toss me out on the porch for bringing anything related to fried food into this house. Darn...

Yummy! I think if I had a fry daddy I'd never leave the house again. :)

Blogger ate my comment! Perhaps it thought it was a doughnut or latke. Both sound good to me!

I have a deep fryer and don't use it. I much prefer to put a deep pot on the stove and use that.

Let me know when the doughnuts are ready and I will be right over!

Someone gave my father one (second-hand), so one weekend we had fried something and fried something else for dinner, and fried apple fritters for breakfast. At which point, really, we'd had enough frying for awhile. The thing took so long to clean that it hasn't been used since, and we understood why the person had given it away in the first place.

Try apple fritters though.

I make great chicken wings, but I have to admit, I do them under the broiler or the convection oven not the deep fryer. Mostly because I hate doing dishes and I find it easier to wrap up the paper liner on the cookie sheet, than to wash a pot.

In fact, it's easier for me to do ANYTHING than to wash a dish. sigh...yes another moral failing of mine.

Ok, everyone. It appears we need to have ourselves a homemade doughnuts party. Who's coming?

And Magpie, you won't believe it, but that thing was indecently easy to clean-- mild application of the soft sponge. Not even that for the basin itself-- just let it soak in hot soapy water for 5 mins. And most parts of that thing are dishwasher safe. Unbelievable. I am going to take it to our shelving in the garage to live so we are not tempted to use it every day :).
